Enhancing Performance – Why IMP Chose Shockwave Seats
For IMP, choosing the right brands means more than simply offering innovative products. It means partnering with manufacturers whose technology, engineering and proven performance deliver genuine benefits on the water. Shockwave Seats is a perfect example.
For more than 25 years, Shockwave has been at the forefront of marine suspension technology, developing seating solutions designed to reduce the impact of demanding conditions and improve comfort, control and endurance.

Proven in the Most Demanding Conditions
Originally developed for the US Coast Guard, Shockwave’s range has evolved to include helm and jockey seating while continuous feedback from military, government and commercial operators has driven ongoing research and development, creating increasingly specialised solutions for demanding marine applications.
A major innovation was the patented Shockwave ICE Console. Its Integrated Control Environment provides a triple-axis suspension platform for two to six occupants, combining enhanced protection with improved control during high-speed operations.
Shockwave’s commitment to real-world testing is equally important. David Smith put the ICE Console through its paces during a demanding Northwest Passage circumnavigation with adventurer Bear Grylls – demonstrating the technology in one of the world’s most challenging marine environments.
Today, Shockwave Seats are used by military and professional operators in more than 40 countries.
Advanced Suspension for a Wider Market
Shockwave’s reputation in professional and military applications also created demand from recreational and light-commercial boaters looking for the same benefits at a more accessible price point.
The S5 series, introduced in 2017, brought Shockwave’s suspension technology to a much wider market. Its 100mm adjustable air-sprung shock and aluminium construction combine vertical suspension travel with forward movement to help counter the deceleration forces created by wave impact.
The range has continued to evolve, with the S5-LW offering three-point arm construction in a cost-effective package, while the S5-AL features a four-point pivot system for more demanding conditions and heavier payloads.
In 2025, Shockwave introduced the premium S5-SS, manufactured from 316 stainless steel for long-term durability in high-salinity environments. Electropolished for additional protection, it also features adjustable compression and rebound settings for a more tailored ride.

Continuing to Challenge Convention
Shockwave’s focus on innovation continued with the late-2025 launch of the patent-pending S3-MAX, described as the world’s first virtual high-pivot, multi-axis shock-mitigation seat.
Designed in response to growing awareness of repetitive high-impact trauma, the S3-MAX uses a virtual high-pivot design to help stabilise the occupant’s head while absorbing lateral wave impact through 80mm of hip-height travel. The technology has already attracted interest from government and military operators.
Why Shockwave?
From its origins in a single suspension seat developed for an ambitious voyage, Shockwave has grown into a globally recognised premium marine suspension brand.
For IMP, it’s this combination of proven performance, continuous innovation, rigorous real-world testing and a comprehensive product range that makes Shockwave the right choice for our customers.
Whether it’s a high-speed military craft, a professional workboat or a recreational vessel, Shockwave is engineered to make the journey more comfortable, controlled and capable.
